Description | East Bronx Democratic district leader Michael Benedetto hopes his years of community activism and experience as a schoolteacher will ride him to victory in the Sept. 12 Democratic primary for the 34th Senate district seat against Riverdale lawyer Lorraine Coyle Koppell.
Benedetto boasts 12 years as head of the east Bronx Chippewa Democratic Club, where he said he instituted a weekly night of free legal services for the community. He prides himself on his community involvement, stressing that he founded the Throgs Neck Players (a theater group) and the Bronx Times Reporter (a community newspaper), served on the community planning board, and sat on the board of directors for the Middletown Road Senior Citizen Center.
"I have spent 30 years working for my community," he said. "I have shown I want to work for the community." |
