Description | For a rookie like me, the summer of 1976 unfolded like a piece of political magic. I walked in countless parades, shook hands at county fairs and railroad stations, spoke at Rotary Clubs and chambers of commerce and preached at black churches.
It was a remarkable year--one that changed forever my professional and personal life. I was married to Jayne Carr, the most wonderful woman in the world, and in the same year, millions of Illinois citizens placed their hope and trust in me by electing me as the 37th governor of Illinois. |
