DescriptionDaley warns "Let's not delve into candidate divorce records"
The Chicago Sun-Times

Mayor Daley cautioned the news media, and political operatives from his own Democratic Party on Thursday not to continue down the slippery and sleazy path leading to the divorce files of politicians. If the snooping through divorce files that torpedoed Democratic senatorial candidate Blair Hull doesn't stop, Daley warned there could be no end to it. he next thing you know, he said, prospective employers will be demanding similar information from job applicants. And the mayor of Chicago will be forced to ask the same question of prospective appointees. Daley said allegations made during a divorce rank "down at the bottom" on the credibility scale because emotions are running high, there's money at stake, and the meter is running for attorneys.

Democratic senatorial nominee Barack Obama has said he does not intend to make an issue of Ryan's divorce. But he has also said he expects the media to fully "vet" the issue for him. And Obama has stopped short of calling off Democratic hound dogs who might blow the whistle on his behalf. Thursday, Daley urged Obama to steer clear of divorce. And he scolded the news media to stop the witch hunt against Ryan.
