Description | WARSAW — Poland’s embattled opposition is looking for a savior, and Donald Tusk could be riding to the rescue.
Poland is awash with rumors that Tusk, a former prime minister and current head of the European People’s Party (EPP), will step in on Wednesday to take control of Civic Platform (PO), the political party he founded two decades ago that’s now the country’s leading opposition grouping.
“I don’t need to fulfill any personal ambitions, but I do feel the need to realize the goal of returning democratic norms to Poland,” Tusk told Poland’s TVN television earlier this month, adding: “I’m capable of taking any decision to help turn back this dangerous turn of events for Poland.” |
