DescriptionOutgoing Democratic Rep. Tulsi Gabbard is facing backlash after she joined Republican Rep. Markwayne Mullin to introduce legislation specifying that Title IX protections for female athletes are based on "biological sex."

The text of the bill introduced Thursday calls for Title IX compliance to be "determined on the basis of biological sex as determined at birth by a physician." Title IX, which forbids sex-based discrimination in any school receiving federal funds, is best known for ensuring that women's college sports programs receive equal support – and a federal judge recently applied it to rule a transgender woman could not be kept off a women's sports team.

In 2016, the Department of Education under former President Barack Obama cited Title IX when it issued a guidance requiring schools to allow transgender students to use the restroom or locker room of their chosen gender. President Donald Trump rescinded that guidance in one of his first acts after taking office. But the Supreme Court ruled in June that a 1964 civil rights law against workplace discrimination applies to gay, lesbian and transgender workers and that decision has been cited by lower courts to extend those protections to transgender athletes.

It's anti-Trans tho

There isn't a "DEBATE", the fact of the matter is a majority of this is people who are just uncomfortable with Trans People being involved and a majority of their big "points" have been debunked. [Link]

Especially given the wishy washy language given by everyone who's in opposition, So every Trans Woman gets excluded: So a woman who has transitioned 10 years ago gets barred from being an athlete cuz she's not "biologically male". Lets do the same thing 4 changing rooms and bathrooms, nothing will go wrong at all. A lot of folks use a Boxing example despite the fact that they use weight categories and such

The fact this is all clearly anti-trans is exemplified by the fact it is made out to be this HUGE issue, when literally nobody should give a **** at all and this has no actual barring at all. A Trans-Woman becomes a good runner and gets to be the gold medalist, so?

Are the Olympics and College Sports being "anti-trans" in trying to address fairness issues? The answer is no - they are trying address changing competitive landscape. Fairness, mostly around drug testing, has also been at the center of competitive sports. This is no different.

To answer your comment - people give a **** because scholarships, awards, records, and access to compete in the Olympics is on the line. People also give a **** because sometimes its just about letting a girl compete.

Two thoughts:
1. Tulsi Gabbard is awful because she is an isolationist who has sucked up to dictators and despots around the world. This is not why she is awful.

2. We've got to start being able to have nuanced discussions about transgender issues. As Brent said, bathroom issues and sports issues are different.

I have many trans friends and try to be affirming in my religion. I endeavor to never be homophobic or transphobic. But, I also think that there are complexities to some issues pertaining to the LGBTQ community that some refuse to acknowledge, including the sports issue.

Maybe we should actually have a Transgender member of the site to discuss

Well, you may not like it, but sports bodies and scientists already acknowledge there is a difference and there are fairness and safety concerns.

Budgett said the IOC listened to hundreds of athletes, doctors and human rights experts for input on guidelines that will help individual sports governing bodies decide their own rules.

"Somehow we have got to find a fair balance," he said, between the views of transgender athletes who have faced harassment and those who argue it is unfair to allow women who transitioned to compete with physical advantages from being assigned male at birth.

The intolerance is not coming from those looking to solve the problem, its coming from those looking to stop the problem from being solved name-calling any who opposes them anti this and anti that.

No, I'd say that the ones that are literally calling Trans-Folks Freaks who are just faking it to be better than the weak dainty women (A decent amount of them are doing just that right now).

I'm not gonna fight because like I said this is not this big important issue rigties make it seem like it is
