DescriptionFormer Gov. Chris Christie has tested positive for COVID-19, he announced this morning on Twitter.

“I just received word that I am positive for COVID-19. I want to thank all of my friends and colleagues who have reached out to ask how I was feeling in the last day or two,” Christie tweeted. “I will be receiving medical attention today and will keep the necessary folks apprised of my condition.”

Christie has dealt with a chronic asthma problem since childhood, something that puts the former two-term governor and presidential candidate in a higher risk category.

He has also publicly addressed battles with his weight and a 2013 lap-band procedure, but has stopped short of releasing health records over the years.

While it is uncertain where or how Christie contracted the virus, he has been in close proximity to Donald Trump over the last week during practice sessions for the president’s debate with Joe Biden.

Christie, who was not wearing a mask during some moments when he was publicly photographed, was also in the Rose Garden last Saturday when Trump announced the nomination of Amy Coney Barrett to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Numerous others he as in contact with recently, including Trump campaign manager Bill Stepien, have also tested positive.

On Friday morning, after Trump announced that he had COVID-19, Christie said he tested negative on Tuesday.

Christie did not immediately respond to a 10:58 AM email seeking comment.
