McConnell to keep grip on GOP even if Republicans lose Senate

Description | Mitch McConnell spent much of his life laboring to become Senate majority leader. And for the past six years, he’s used that position to become one of the most consequential party leaders in decades.
But it all could come to an end next January as Democrats’ chances of a Senate takeover increase. And the Senate map is so rough for Republicans in 2022 that a loss this cycle could make for a long-term stay in the minority.
Yet the 78-year-old McConnell is already vowing to serve as minority leader if it comes to that. Asked on Tuesday whether he planned to stay on as GOP leader regardless of the election's outcome, McConnell replied: “I do.” |
