DescriptionKentucky's two Republican U.S. Senators spoke Tuesday from the Senate floor to explain their rationales to vote to acquit President Donald Trump in his impeachment trial.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said the upper chamber will "reject the House's abuse of power" on Wednesday through acquitting Trump.

"We have done our duty," McConnell said on Tuesday. "We have considered all arguments. We have studied the 'mountain of evidence.' And tomorrow, we will vote.

"We must vote to reject the House’s abuse of power. Vote to protect our institutions. Vote to reject new precedents that would reduce the Framers’ design to rubble," the longtime senator continued.

McConnell concluded by urging his colleagues to "cast the vote that the facts in evidence, the Constitution and the common good clearly require: Vote to acquit the president of these charges."

The Kentucky Republican and his fellow senators were each given 10 minutes of speaking time on the Senate floor to discuss impeachment and explain their positions on the historic occasion.
