Description | A politician from Emmanuel Macron's La République En Marche (LREM) will be expelled from the party after refusing to end his candidacy for mayor of Paris, French media reported Monday.
Cédric Villani, a mathematician and MP for LREM, said after a meeting with Macron on Sunday that he would not stand aside in favor of Benjamin Griveaux, who was elected as the party's official candidate through an internal ballot last year.
"I will ask LREM's political bureau to take note of his departure Wednesday," party leader Stanislas Guerini told French radio Radio Classique. "He put himself at odds with the president of the Republic and the movement," he added. |
