Description | Brooklyn Councilman Kalman Yeger was booted from the city’s immigration committee Monday amid widespread outrage over his recent claim that “Palestine does not exist.”
Speaker Corey Johnson confirmed Yeger’s axing in a statement issued after City Council leaders agreed during an afternoon meeting that it was not “appropriate” for the councilman to remain on the committee, according to a source familiar with the talks.
“I found Council Member Yeger’s comments completely unacceptable,” Johnson said. “They were dehumanizing to Palestinians and divisive, and have no place in New York City."
The speaker added, “What he said is totally inappropriate, and sends the wrong message about our values.” |
