DescriptionAfter she delivered a pivotal vote that helped seat Brett Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court, Maine Sen. Susan Collins had the best fundraising quarter of her career, shattering her previous best with the help of a flood of out-of-state money.

After announcing her decision to vote in favor of Kavanaugh’s controversial nomination during a speech on the Senate floor in early October, Collins raised $1.8 million in the final quarter of 2018, according to documents filed with the Federal Election Commission on Wednesday.

Of the nearly $900,000 she received from individual donors who contributed more than $200 to her campaign, just $19,000 was from individuals with Maine addresses.

Very little of this money is from Maine, which is not a fact that can be readily ignored. If large sums of cash guaranteed wins then Senators Heitkamp and O'Rourke would be sitting on the floor of the House tonight listening to the SOTU.

I can't find any polls with Collins up 20+? Thanks in advance for a citation. And yes, out of state money doesn't at all guarantee a win. There are plenty of right leaning people out of state willing to reward Collins, but she has to be re-elected by people who live in Maine.

I don't have the stats offhand, but I doubt the millions raised against her were from Maine either.

Emerson released a poll in October that showed Collins with a 44%-20% lead over Susan Rice> It can be concerning that an incumbent is below 50%, but this was after the heat of the Kavanaugh vote. I doubt that vote will matter as much come election time.

I would assume the majority of the anti-Collins funds are from outside of Maine likewise. However, my point was the large sum of money Collins' raised is no indication of solid support at home in Maine based solely on where the funds are coming from.

And Kavanaugh protestors raised more than twice as much for her opponent.
