Description | If it weren’t for Ronald Reagan, Republican vice presidential nominee Mike Pence might still be a Democrat — at least, that’s how he tells it.
“His ideals inspired me to leave the party of my youth and become a Republican like he did,” Pence said Thursday during a speech at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.
Pence was raised in a family of Indiana Democrats but said he left the party around 1980, when Reagan ran for president.
