Fifty-one years ago this month, voters elected Walker, making her the first female mayor of a United States city with more than 60,000 people. She says it was all a fluke.
Walker served one term, from 1965 - 1967, and then moved out of politics. She is now 88 and lives in Portland, Oregon with her daughter. Aurora has not had a female mayor since. |
