Description | Republican governor nominee Adam Laxalt was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer in June 1996, according to police report summaries obtained by the Reno Gazette Journal.
Records show Nevada’s attorney general, then a 17-year-old living in Alexandria, Virginia, was arrested along with a woman charged with underage possession of alcohol.
The GOP governor hopeful, who was born in Reno but raised in Alexandria, told the RGJ he was drinking underage at the woman's house when police were called to the home.
"When I was 17, I was at a friend’s house, when police suddenly started to enter and I reacted the wrong way—trying to keep them from coming in and asking for a warrant," Laxalt said. "Today, as a law enforcement officer, I understand they were just doing their jobs. |
