Description | Businesses and people whose state taxes are past due would see their names, addresses and debts published on the state's Internet site if an Evansville lawmaker gets his way in this last week of the 2004 General Assembly.
Last month, the Indiana Senate voted 31-18 to pass Sen. Gregory Server's proposal. The latest version of his legislation would have embarrassed 40,124 Hoosier tax scofflaws who have owed the state $144 million for two years or more.
The bill died last week in the House. But it can be brought back in a conference committee report and sent to Gov. Joe Kernan for his signature if lawmakers agree. |
