Description | Official numbers from the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners indicate that there will not be a runoff in the close 33rd Ward race between incumbent Deb Mell and school teacher Tim Meegan. There will, however, be runoffs in 18 other wards in addition to the mayoral runoff between incumbent Rahm Emanuel and Cook County Commissioner Jesus 'Chuy' Garcia. The last time Chicago saw 18 aldermanic runoffs was back in 1991.
In the 33rd Ward, Mell retained her seat, having garnered 50.21 percent of the vote, while her nearest opponent Meegan received 34.01 percent of voters' support.
But Meegan's campaign intends to continue on with a lawsuit filed last week calling for a recount in the race. |
