DescriptionState Representative Daniel B. Winslow, a Norfolk Republican, said today that he will resign from the House to become an executive at a software company.

Winslow’s announcement surprised some political observers who expected the former district court judge would enter the nascent race to replace Martha Coakley as attorney general.

A former chief legal counsel to Governor Mitt Romney, Winslow finished a disappointing third in the race for the Republican nomination for US Senate this year, losing to Gabriel E. Gomez, the victor, and behind the second-place finisher, Michael J. Sullivan.

In a press release today, Winlsow said that he will step down from his House seat on Sept. 29 to become senior vice president and general counsel of Rimini Street, Inc., a Las Vegas-based company that provides software support services for Oracle and SAP licensees.
