Description | Plano elected its first black mayor Saturday night, voting financial adviser Harry LaRosiliere into office by a wide margin.
While the municipal election made history, it also maintained much of the political status quo. All of the incumbents on the Plano school board were re-elected. And LaRosiliere, 50, was endorsed by much of the moderate city establishment, including soon-to-be-retired Mayor Phil Dyer. His opponent, Fred Moses, had strong tea party support.
“I am honored that the citizens have given me their trust,” LaRosiliere said from his poll-watching party at the Haggard Party Barn. “I realize it is a privilege to serve as mayor, and I will work hard for every citizen to make Plano a great place to call their home.”
Voters did enact one big change in the city. Liquor stores will soon be coming to town. |
