Description | While the two major parties gear up for the U.S. Senate special election between Republican Gabriel Gomez and Democratic Congressman Ed Markey, a third little-known candidate will also appear on the June 25 ballot.
Richard Heos, a Woburn man aligned with the new Twelve Visions Party, paid a signature-gatherer out of his own pocket, he told the News Service, and has qualified for the ballot, Secretary of State William Galvin said in a pre-primary briefing Monday. Heos said he had assembled 11,000 nomination signatures.
"We're a brand new political party," said Heos, a 66-year-old, who said he is a disabled U.S. Navy veteran who now officiates high school football, basketball and baseball games. The party formed in 2009, in Chicago, and Heos said the aim is to eventually elect a president who would hone the focus of the federal government, so that it has "a protection-only budget. No entitlement programs, just to protect the borders and the people of the United States of America." |
