Description | Tinkering with the economy produces a lot of tough calls. The next junior U.S. senator from Illinois will be asked to make them by answering questions such as: How bad are things really? Is more government spending needed to generate jobs? What about tax cuts, and can the government afford them?
The candidates' views are shaped by their party label. The Republicans are behind the Bush tax cuts and think they should have more time to work magic. The Democrats want tax cuts targeted to low- and middle-class workers, with most calling for tax increases on the richest 1 percent or 2 percent of filers. |
