Description"U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg – who has not cast a vote in more than a month – will not return to Washington next week when the Senate returns from recess.

"I regret that I will not be returning to Washington next week as I continue treatment for, and recuperate from, muscle weakness and fatigue,” Lautenberg said in a statement. “My physician continues to advise me to work from home and not travel at this time."

The 89-year-old Democrat announced in February that he would not run for re-election in 2014. Since then, he has only showed up to the Senate to cast votes on one day, Feb. 28.

The Senate next week is expected to vote on things important to Lautenberg, including the nomination of U.S. Magistrate Judge Patty Shwartz for the Third Circuit Court of Appeals and Lautenberg’s own legislation on high capacity magazines.

“I have worked hard since Judge Shwartz's nomination by President Obama toward her confirmation, and I am confident that she will be confirmed by a strong majority of my colleagues,” Lautenberg said."
