| Description | "WASHINGTON — District of Columbia Mayor Vincent Gray has proposed a bill that would pave the way for the district to have an elected attorney general starting in 2015.
District voters decided in 2010 that the attorney general should be elected and independent of mayoral control.
The bill would change the structure of the city’s executive branch. Among other changes, the bill would alter the chain of command for attorneys in executive-branch agencies. Instead of reporting to the attorney general, they would report to their agencies’ directors.
The primary for the city’s first attorney general election will be in April 2014, followed by a general election in November. Gray is asking the D.C. Council to approve the bill quickly so the reforms will be in place before candidates emerge." |
