Description | LANSING, MI -- Most Michigan lawmakers are heading home for the holidays, but Democratic Sen. Minority Leader Gretchen Whitmer isn't ready to put a bow on what happened last week.
Whitmer, who this afternoon presided over the what was expected to be a routine and symbolic vote by the Michigan electoral college, used the opportunity to criticize her Republican colleagues who rushed controversial right-to-work bills through the lame-duck session.
"It's not often that I have the gavel in my hand," Whitmer said from the front of the Senate chambers, explaining that she wanted to speak out behalf of "so many people whose voices where shut out and shut down in recent weeks" in Lansing. |
