Yet Sherman is still paying the price for his hard-fought victory, and it may cost him a shot at becoming ranking member on the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

In particular, Sherman’s Democratic colleagues in the California House delegation are furious over a pro-Sherman mailing sent out by a super PAC called Californians for Integrity in Government.

During what was described as an “angry” meeting of the California delegation on Wednesday, Sherman was repeatedly berated over the mailing, with Waters and Rep. Anna Eshoo — among others — denouncing it to his face. Rep. George Miller called the mailer “pretty superficial, pretty vicious” and told Sherman: “I am not going to vote for you for Foreign Affairs.”
