Description | Independent Sen.-elect Angus King said the state sent a message to the political establishment by rejecting both major party candidates in the race to succeed Sen. Olympia Snowe and he will begin settling the question of which party he will caucus with during a series of meetings starting next week.
The former two-term governor plans to travel to Washington this weekend, and could answer the caucus question next week or sometime after the Thanksgiving holiday. His decision will be based on his ability to be effective and to maintain his independence, he said.
King told reporters he will vote his conscience, regardless, once he goes to Congress, whether that be voting with Democrats or Republicans.
