Description | When it came time for members of the Courier Times and Intelligencer editorial boards to recommend a U.S. Senate candidate for voters, we were stymied. Incumbent Democrat Bob Casey has not, in our view, done much. He’s a nice man and did a good job as the state’s auditor general. But his record of accomplishment in the Senate is reed thin. Indeed, Casey’s Republican rival, Tom Smith, nicknamed Casey “Senator Zero.”
But Smith doesn’t present an appealing alternative to Casey — not unless you’re extremely right of the political center. It’s why Smith is referred to by some as “Tea Party Tom.” |
