DescriptionU.S. Sen. Mark Pryor, a two-term Democrat from Arkansas who is running for re-election in 2014, announced Friday that he and his wife are divorcing after 20 years of marriage.

Pryor's wife, Jill, filed for divorce Friday in Pulaski County court. The two were married on July 4, 1992, and the filing said they separated in July. The filing cited a part of the state's law about indignities as grounds for divorce but didn't elaborate.

"Today, my wife Jill and I, have filed for divorce," Pryor said in a statement released by his office. "This was a mutual decision between the two of us. This is a private matter for our family and during this painful time Jill and I would appreciate privacy, understanding, and your prayers, especially for our children."

A spokesman for Pryor said the senator wouldn't comment beyond the statement. Jill Pryor's attorney also declined to comment beyond the statement issued.
