DescriptionThe story that started as a third-rate break-in of Rep. Michael Grimm's campaign office turned out to be an 8th grader and his pals smashing the freshman Republican's windows for kicks.

An 8th grader admitted vandalizing campaign office over the weekend and will be charged with criminal mischief, the Associated Press reported.

Grimm also conceded that the office computers were likely not tampered with by an intruder, as he originally charged. Instead, Grimm said it was possible “a volunteer could have inadvertently compromised the computer and failed to report it.”

Watergate this was not.

Grimm released a statement Tuesday saying he was “very relieved to know” the vandalism was not “politically motivated” — after saying on Sunday the incident appeared to be an “attack on our democracy as a whole.”
