DescriptionFormer New Hampshire Gov. John Sununu (R), a prominent surrogate for Mitt Romney, said Tuesday that the media's focus should be on President Obama's "class warfare," not on Romney's remark that "47 percent" of the country depends on government.

The comments by Sununu on MSNBC came a day after a leaked video from a private fundraiser in May showed Romney claiming that 47 percent of the country would not vote for him over Obama and that those voters believe "they are victims."

Sununu defended Romney, calling out former President Jimmy Carter's grandson, James Carter IV, who reportedly helped leak the video and publicize it.

"If Jimmy Carter's grandson hadn't snuck this stuff out you wouldn't be having this conversation today," Sununu said Tuesday. "You ought to be talking about class warfare, and this president nurtures it all the time."

Sununu suggested that Romney's remarks were a reaction to Obama playing up class divisions.
