Democrats questioned President Bush’s credibility and ties to special interests, squaring off in a debate Sunday as Howard Dean and John Edwards faced pressure to abdicate the presidential nomination to John Kerry.
The front-runner defended himself against a barrage of criticism from Republicans while his rivals gave him a pass early in the five-candidate forum.
“I’m ready for what they throw at me,” Kerry said of President Bush and his GOP allies.
Kerry leads Dean, Edwards and two other rivals in polls of likely Democratic voters in Wisconsin, which holds its critical primary Tuesday. |
