Description | Is this last call for Isleton? After 89 years as a city, the perennially cash-strapped town once known as the "little Paris of the Delta" is considering whether to dissolve itself.
City leaders caution that the possibility is remote. But there have been discussions with Sacramento County officials about how to disincorporate Isleton, which would result in the county absorbing the town's debts and assets, such as they are.
County Executive Brad Hudson and Supervisor Don Nottoli spent 90 minutes last week with Isleton officials and residents to discuss the possibility, and the county counsel prepared a three-page memo outlining the complex process that would have to be followed.
The town has been so dysfunctional in recent decades that the Sacramento County grand jury suggested a few years back that it might be better off committing municipal suicide rather than remain "in a state of perpetual crisis." |
