Description | An Arkansas judge has ruled that former legislator and Harlem Globetrotter Fred Smith is not eligible to run for his old House seat because of a felony theft conviction.
McGowan said that even though a Chicot County judge cleared his record in the case on March, the former lawmaker wasn't eligible when he filed on March 1 since the case hadn't been dismissed.
Pulaski County Judge Mary McGowan on Monday granted the state Democratic Party's request to block Smith's candidacy to run in the May 22 primary for an east Arkansas House seat. McGowan ordered that the votes for Smith not be counted or certified, since the ballots have already been printed. |
