DescriptionRep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO), the chairman of the congressional Black Caucus, condemned some in his party’s claim Sunday morning that the GOP is waging a “war on women.”

Appearing on CNN’s State of the Union, Cleaver originally criticized conservative evangelical activist Ralph Reed’s claim that President Barack Obama was waging a “war on religion” based on the administration’s decision on contraception.

“We’ve got to quit exaggerating our political differences,” the congressman said.

When Reed asked if it was also wrong for Democrats to say Republicans were waging a “war on women,” Cleaver agreed.

“Yes, that is wrong, and I have never said it, not one time,” he said. “I condemn it. If it’s a Democrat, if it’s my cousin, then it’s wrong.”
