DescriptionSPRINGFIELD --- Democrat Dan Seals, a three-time losing congressional candidate on the North Shore, is getting a state job.

Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn today hired Seals as his $121,090-a-year assistant director of the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. He starts Tuesday.

Seals twice ran and lost to then-U.S. Rep. Mark Kirk. When Kirk decided to run for U.S. Senate last year, Seals ran again for the congressional seat but lost in November to Republican Robert Dold of Kenilworth.
Questions about Seals' employment status came up during his congressional campaigns. Seals left a six-figure marketing job with GE's commercial mortgage unit when he ran for Congress in 2006. Seals released tax returns during last year's congressional campaign showing that in 2009, he made $10,020 from his work with the Civic Consulting Alliance and $7,000 from lecturing at Northwestern University.

The Democratic-led Illinois Senate must confirm Seals to the job, which runs through January 2013.
