DescriptionSIOUX FALLS, SD - Three Sioux Falls City Council seats are up for grabs in the April city election.

With two weeks remaining to file nomination petitions, four candidates have officially come forward; two more have filed paperwork.

The men and women who sit in this room are chosen by Sioux Falls voters.

"It's a shame, but I don't pay attention to local politics as much as I should," Sioux Falls voter Jeremy O'Hare said.

"I have strong opinions on how the city should be run. I prefer to have a candidate who has open views -- not in agreement, but open," Ron Beck said.

And half way through the petition process we are getting a better picture of who will be on the ballot.

"People can decide almost up to the last day to go out and get the signatures and file," Interim Sioux Falls City Clerk Sue Roust said.

Four seats are up in 2012. So far three incumbents: Greg Jamison of the southwest district, Dean Karsky in the Northwest district and Kenny Anderson, junior in the Northeast are on the ballot.

Another At-Large seat is up too because Vernon Brown is term limited. Cory Buttemeier has turned in a petition for that seat.

Two others have filed paperwork laying the ground work but are not on the ballot yet. Those men are Kyle VanderLinden, who would challenge Jamison on the southwest side, and former city councilor Kermit Staggers who also wants to fill the At-Large spot.
