Description | Republicans treated Mesa County businesswoman Laura Bradford like a rock star when she arrived at the state Capitol two days after the 2008 election.
She received a standing ovation for knocking off Democrat Bernie Buescher, who would have been elected House speaker that day if he had held on to his seat.
The clapping went on for so long at the GOP House caucus that Bradford finally had to motion Republicans to sit down.
Those heady days are gone.
Denver police last week stopped Bradford, 54, of Collbran, on suspicion of drunken driving. Police sent her home in a cab after determining that their policy, based on their reading of the state constitution, didn't allow them to arrest a lawmaker during the session.
Some constituents say it's the latest move from a lawmaker who has turned out to be a disappointment. |
