DescriptionMitt Romney is taking a beating in editorials on media websites and newspapers across the country for not making his tax returns public.

On the other side of the political spectrum, the National Review’s editorial board wrote, “As [Rick] Perry put it when he confronted Romney on the issue, since Republicans ‘cannot fire our nominee in September,’ it is critical that Romney release his tax records now, that voters might ‘take a look and decide if we’ve got a flawed candidate.’

An editorial in Newsday, a newspaper that serves Long Island and parts of New York City, said Romney should release not only his 2011 returns but also those for multiple years, pointing to the candidate’s father as having set a good example.

“His father, George Romney, set the standard when he ran for the 1968 Republican nomination. He released 12 years of returns, noting that a single return could be manipulated to make a candidate look good,” it said.
