Description | Sen. Tommy Norment (R-3rd), newly reinstated as Senate Majority Leader, said he plans to revisit redistricting in the 2012 session of the General Assembly.
“I don’t know how the Senate as a body feels about it, but I know that I and some of my colleagues, both Democrats and Republicans, want to revisit the issue,” he said Friday.
Revisiting redistricting, controversial when it was done on schedule last year, might be seen as an escalation of partisan politics.
“It certainly increases partisan division,” said John McGlennon, a professor of government at the College of William & Mary. “It has in other states where this has been done.”
McGlennon said it opens the possibility of redistricting every time the majority in the legislature changes. |
