Description | In mid-September, Pennsylvania Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi (R-09) announced that he would introduce a billthat would change the way Pennsylvania sends its now 20 electoral votes to the Electoral College for the 2012 elections. A way that would drastically change the way the President of the United States is chosen, and would give a huge share of electoral votes to the Republican nominee even if they received less votes than Barack Obama.
After 2011 redistricting, Pennsylvania is expected to have 12 Republican-leaning Congressional Districts and six Democratic-leaning Congressional Districts thanks to partisan gerrymandering. In Pileggi’s plan, if Barack Obama were to win the overall statewide popular vote by the same 9.69 percent margin as in 2008, he would lose Pennsylvania’s electoral vote eight-12. |
