Description | MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Mississippians will vote on a constitutional amendment to ban abortion next week, and soon Tennesseans will see an amendment geared toward abortion on the ballot.
It took pro-life advocates more than ten years to do, but in the 2014 state election a constitutional amendment on abortion will be up for a vote. Laws to ban or limit options on abortions have not been successful in Tennessee because of the state constitution, but now voters will be given a chance to change that and open the door to reform abortion laws.
Right now, abortion cannot be banned or limited in the state of Tennessee. In 2000, the state Supreme Court ruled abortion is a right guaranteed by the state constitution.
According to Sue Parker with Life Choices of Memphis, "Tennessee has one of the most liberal abortion laws in the country."
She said the abortion constitutional amendment going before the voters in 2014 is a great first step for the pro life community. |
