Description | U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Austin, will not run for the U.S. Senate seat left open by the retirement of Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison.
In a statement released Wednesday, McCaul said he could best serve Texas by continuing in the House of Representatives, where he is chairman of the Homeland Security Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee.
"My work in the Congress is not yet finished. I will run for re-election to continue to represent the 10th Congressional District of Texas. I will continue my efforts to ensure the safety of our Homeland and the security of our borders, and will continue to work tirelessly to reform Washington, cut spending and reduce the size of government," McCaul said.
McCaul intends to seek the chairmanship of the Homeland Security Committee in the next Congress.
Chatter surfaced back in August that McCaul was considering a run for the Republican nomination. |
