Description | RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — State Senator James Forrester, a physician and social conservative, died on Monday in Gastonia, N.C., just weeks after leading a successful fight to put a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage on the North Carolina ballot next spring. He was 74.
His death was confirmed by his daughter Mary Paige Forrester.
Mr. Forrester, a family practitioner from Mount Holly and a former Air Force general, joined the Senate in 1991 and often worked on health issues. He was known for regularly filing a bill that would allow voters to decide whether to add a same-sex marriage ban to the state Constitution. |
