Description | Puerto Rico residents will vote in a non-binding referendum next year on whether to pursue a change in the island's political status as a U.S. territory. But none of the 4 million Puerto Ricans who live outside the island will have a say — and some say that's wrong.
"Those of us that are here could be affected by decisions made in Puerto Rico," said retired Army Col. Dennis Freytes, a former Valencia College trustee and a leader of various Latino organizations who lives in Windermere. "I've sent letters to elected officials in Puerto Rico and here, made tons of phone calls and reached out to the [Puerto Rico] secretary of state. This matter concerns all of us." |
