DescriptionJust in case you were beginning to wonder if anybody was going to emerge as a Republican candidate for governor in next year’s election, Vermont Republican Party Chairwoman Patricia McDonald is putting her own name out there as a potential candidate, saying some in the party have asked her to consider running.

“I am thinking about it,” she said Monday.

That doesn’t mean that others aren’t still pondering a run, McDonald said. The party is still awaiting word from former Lt. Gov. Brian Dubie, who narrowly lost to Democrat Peter Shumlin last year for the open seat created by Republican Jim Douglas’ retirement, she said. State Sen. Randy Brock, R-Franklin, and businessman Mark Snelling, among others, are also still in the interested category, she said.

Republicans have blown by a few of their self-imposed deadlines for announcing who will run. First, it was going to be Labor Day, then the end of September. Now, McDonald said, the party expects to have a candidate by the time of its fall dinner. That’s sometime in late November, with date to be set depending on the availability of whoever ends up being the guest speaker, party Executive Director Tayt Brooks said.
