Description | The first of three Republicans reportedly considering whether to challenge Democratic Gov. Peter Shumlin in the 2012 election has made up his mind.
Tom Salmon announced Friday in an email that he would run for re-election as state auditor rather than challenge Shumlin or Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., in 2012.
Salmon has served two terms as auditor, first as a Democrat and then as a Republican. He announced on his Facebook page Feb. 17 that he would not seek re-election to that post.
Now, however, Salmon said Tropical Storm Irene has helped him decide that he could best serve Vermont as auditor, focusing on improving government performance. |
