Description | The actions of a conservative tea party legislator recruiting people to challenge moderates within her own party incites political disharmony that could echo the fierce divide in national politics, one of her peers said today.
“What Rep. (Kim) Pearson is doing here is almost trying to create that environment that we’re seeing on a federal level, and it’s not healthy,” said Rep. Josh Byrnes, R-Osage. “If we create an environment like that, how will we ever get anything done? I don’t think that’s what our constituents want.”
The Des Moines Register today published an article quoting Pearson, a Republican from Pleasant Hill, that she was helping to recruit conservatives to challenge members of her own party that some believe have violated the core values of the party.
“The best recruiting tool is just the votes of the so-called conservatives,” Pearson said in the article. “I mean, they have absolutely undermined themselves because we’ve been able to force votes and actually show by the votes where they actually stand.” |
