Description"A Democratic state senator from Virginia coal country said in a broadcast interview he won’t support President Barack Obama’s re-election next year.

Sen. Phil Puckett of Russell County told WJHL-TV ([Link] ) of Johnson City, Tenn., in a report aired Wednesday that the president doesn’t listen to him and hasn’t backed the coal industry.

“It’s very clear to me that the administration does not support the coal industry in a way that’s beneficial to our area. So, I don’t plan to support President Obama for re-election,” he said in the interview.

Puckett supported Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination in 2008, but he campaigned for Obama once he was the party’s nominee heading into that fall’s presidential election.

Puckett disavowed the president after Republican challenger Adam Light and a GOP eager to unseat the 3½-term Democrat labeled him for months as the unpopular president’s “man in southwestern Virginia.”
