| Description | Sen. David Vitter (R-La.) was for it before he was against it.
Vitter charged last week that the Obama administration was “reckless” and engaged in “crony capitalism” for its role in awarding subsidies to “green” energy projects, including a large loan to a now-bankrupt solar manufacturing firm, Solyndra.
But Vitter wrote to the Department of Energy at least seven times since 2009 to seek money for energy projects that would benefit his state, a new Associated Press report says.
One of the projects Vitter supported, a company that has developed a method to reduce pollution at coal-burning power plants, has received preliminary approval for a $245 million loan guarantee.
“I understand the importance of accessing the domestic energy resources we have, like coal, in an environmentally conscious manner,” Vitter wrote in a letter to Energy Secretary Steven Chu in April 2009. |
