Description | With the election for U.S. Senate well over a year away, candidates vying for the seat held by U.S. Sen. Herb Kohl are already jostling for position.
On Monday, former congressman Mark Neumann became the first prominent candidate to announce his intention to run. Elsewhere, Assembly Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald (R-Horicon) drew even closer to announcing his own bid for the seat, and the team working in behalf of former Gov. Tommy G. Thompson announced that two prominent Republicans were backing Thompson.
Neumann, who lost a gubernatorial primary last year to Scott Walker, said Monday that he sensed a change in the country's mood in favor of balancing the federal budget. The time is right, he said, to run, work to balance the federal budget and bring jobs back to Wisconsin. |
