| Description | "The Quinnipiac University Poll was ranked as the most accurate among major pollsters who conducted surveys in two states during the recent election campaigns.
The ranking [Link] was done by well-known analyst Nate Silver, who blogs at FiveThirtyEight for the New York Times. He assigned the worse ranking, in terms of accuracy and bias, to Rasmussen Reports and its subsidiary, Pulse Opinion Research, who conducted polls for Fox News.
Silver looked at the results of eight companies that conducted at least 10 polls of gubernatorial and U.S. Senate contests in the final three weeks of the campaign and who were working in at least two states. The Quinnipiac Poll conducts opinion surveys in six states. Its director, Douglas Schwartz, did not return a request for comment.
Silver said Quinnipiac was the most accurate in its 21 polls, which on average missed by 3.3 points and which showed “little overall bias.” In comparison, Rasmussen conducted 105 polls and missed by an average of 5.8 points.
Quinnipiac, as the best, was given an average bias rating of 0.7 points compared to 5.8 points for Rasmussen, both in favor of Republicans.
In its last poll in Connecticut, Quinnipiac said Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Richard Blumenthal was ahead of Republican Linda McMahon 53 percent to 44 percent. Blumenthal won 53 percent to 46 percent." |
